Kevin O’Bryan Psychotherapy
I cannot help but dream about a criticism that would try not to judge but to bring an oeuvre, a book, a sentence, an idea to life…It would multiply not judgments but signs of life.
– Michel Foucault, “The Masked Philosopher”
About Me
Kevin O’Bryan, LMFT (#119828)
I consider myself a bit of a vagabond. Growing up, my family moved many times, so I saw and lived in many parts of the country — urban and rural; Midwest, South, and West. From these diverse childhood experiences, I met people from all walks of life and developed a genuine curiosity for hearing people’s stories. I discovered that I had a natural knack for making others feel comfortable sharing their experiences, particularly their struggles and fears. This led me to pursue a career as a therapist, and I completed my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from USC. My training focused on working with those with trauma, somatic difficulties, and sexual identity and intimacy struggles.
In my spare time, I love to surf, cook for my family, listen to live music, and travel the globe.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT 119828) in Los Angeles. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about the way I work. I look forward to learning whether we may be a good fit for working together.

Working with Me

My approach to therapy is collaborative. I wholeheartedly believe that you are your own expert on your life. Through therapy, my goal is to help you identify and work through the challenges and obstacles that may be standing in the way of gratifying relationships, a satisfying work life, and living the life you wish to lead. Your problems are not what define you as a person. I am interested in helping you clearly express your strengths, hopes, and values, which may have become lost amidst life’s struggles. I do my best to create a safe and supportive environment with warmth, respect, kindness, curiosity, and a little humor.

Rates

My current rates are:
$200/hour for individuals | $225/hour for couples | $210/hour for EMDR/Pain reprocessing/OCSB
I do not accept insurance currently. For regular sessions, I will consider sliding my scale based on the availability of space for reduced rate in my schedule. However, if our cadence shifts to less frequent sessions, my rate would return to full.
A note about my rates:
My fees reflect the costs I have incurred and continue to incur to provide and expand mental health care to a wide range of persons. These costs include initial and continuing education, professional licensing, and professional development. I am committed to making mental health care more affordable and accessible to all who are in need of it. I have set my rates in order to support those efforts.
If my full rate is outside your means, I will:
Slide if I have any space on my reduced fee schedule.
Collaborate with you to connect you with lower rate services available in my professional network.

Land Acknowledgement
A Land Acknowledgement is a formal statement that recognizes and respects indigenous peoples as the stewards of this land who have called and still call the land home before and after the arrival of settlers. Acknowledging the land works to undo the intentional erasure of indigenous peoples and is a first step in decolonizing land relations and supporting reconciliation. We recognize those indigenous people who are from federally recognized tribes, non-federally recognized tribes, those who live on reservations, those who are Urban Raised Indians, those who are indigenous to the Americas and to those who have been de-tribalized; and they are recovering their histories and to those who have no idea that they are in fact indigenous to the Americas because of conquest/colonization/violence/power. For most of Southern California we are probably living on land stolen from the Tongva. They have survived Spanish, Mexican and US governmental invasions and attempts to exterminate them.
Here are some ways to find out whose land we are on:
